Math Secretary Retires

Elizabeth Young Mathematics Department secretary Elizabeth Young recently retired after 39 years of service at the University.

A graduate of West Lafayette High School, Purdue University (BS48), and the University of Illinois (MS51), Elizabeth started working for the Mathmatics Department in 1954 and for many years was secretary to the chairman of the undergraduate majors commitee. Elizabeth also prepared technical manuscripts and grant proposals for the faculty. At a banquet held last winter in her honor, Prof. J. J. Price remarked, "Elizabeth was always ready and eager to help. It was impossible to ask her to type a letter soon or by tomorrow. To her 'soon' meant in a minute and 'by tomorrow' meant in ten minutes. Not only did she did she deliver fast, but her work was always done with vigor and enthusiasm."

More recently Elizabeth performed the secretarial work for the Elementary Services Committee. "She probably knows more about the ESC than most people in our department," says ESC chairperson Prof. Jean Rubin. "Elizabeth always did everything I asked of her promptly and courteously. I wish her a long and happy retirement."

We all second Prof. Rubin's sentiments and will miss Elizabeth very much!
