SUMMER 2000

Milestones

In February, the Math Department celebrated Judy Snider's 35 years at Purdue (all in the Math Department!) with a reception on the 8th floor. Judy began her career when the department was located in the Recitation Building. Judy has been a dedicated staff member and has served the department in a variety of ways. She has been the Math-Science Building Deputy for many years and also is a technical typist and assistant to the schedule deputy.

Sarah Suitors officially retired from Purdue in January after 23 years of service in the undergraduate services/calculus office. Sarahıs shoes were so hard to fill that we hired her replacement, Julie Morris, early in the fall so Sarah would have plenty of time to show Julie the ropes! We will all miss Sarah very much, but at the same time welcome Julie to the department.

Members of the student organization Mortar Board presented Jackie Oswalt with "Rose Award" in April. Jackie was recognized for her outstanding work with students in the Actuarial Science program. Jackie is also office manager for the department and provides support to the Associate and Assistant Heads.

The School of Nursing and the Department of Mathematics hosted a reception for Purdue professors Ann and Richard Hunt on April 26 in the Memorial Union. The couple retired from Purdue this spring. Dick has served on the mathematics faculty since 1969. Ann joined the nursing faculty in 1976.

Also retiring from the department this spring was Vaughan Weston, who came to Purdue as Professor of Mathematics in 1969.
