PDE Meeting Held at Purdue

The Purdue Mathematics Department hosted the Midwest Partial Differential Equations Seminar March 25-26,2000. Seven one-hour talks drew an audience of over fifty researchers and students. The speakers were: Luis Caffarelli, University of Texas at Austin; Gui-Qiang Chen, Northwestern University; Tanya Christiansen, University of Missouri; Mikhail Feldman, University of Wisconsin; David Kinderlehrer, Carnegie Mellon University; Michael Loss, Georgia Institute of Technology; and Nikolai Nadirashvili, University of Chicago.

The talks covered a wide range of subjects, including problems in optimization, scattering theory, mathema-tical physics, materials modeling and conservation laws.

Professors Patricia Bauman, Dan Phillips, and Antonio Sá Barreto organized the conference. Funding was provided by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Mathematics.
