William Browning, founder and President of Applied Mathematics, Inc., Gales Ferry, CT, established a scholarship for mathematics undergraduates in 2003 to honor his Ph.D. advisor, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Leonard Berkovitz, and his wife, Anna.
Professor Meyer Jerison played an active role in the Mathematics Department and in the University at large for decades. After his death in 1995, family and friends established a memorial fund to encourage students in mathematics. The fund provides conference travel support for undergraduate and graduate students, scholarships for undergraduates, and an annual undergraduate analysis award.
Shau-wai Lam established a fund in 2001 to honor his former advisor, Professor T.T. Moh. The scholarship is awarded to Chinese students pursuing advanced degrees in mathematics.
The late Jean E. Rubin was a logician and professor of mathematics who served for many years as the Mathematics Department scholarship chairperson. A scholarship in her name was created shortly after her death in 2003 to continue her work of attracting talented students to study mathematics.
