  2. What is FERPA certification?

FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) serves to protect the privacy of students and prevent the abuse and misuse of student information. Certification information is available at: FERPA Certification. You must be certified to access course rosters and submit final grades online.

  3. How do I submit my final course grades online?

Logon to myPurdue. Click on the "Banner Self-Service" folder, then click "Faculty Services " and then "Final Grades." Alternatively, if you are familiar with Blackboard Vista, you may submit grades there. See the Blackboard Vista Manual for more information.

  4. What happens if I make a mistake entering final grades?

Final course grades are not finalized until they are rolled. You can tell when this happens because it will say so and the grade cannot be changed. You may change any grades until they are rolled. After that time if you need to change a grade, see the Schedule Deputy (Peter Cook).

  5. Can I add students in my course?

  7. What is Blackboard Learn?
  8. Blackboard Learn (replacing Blackboard Vista) is an online course environment that allows instructors to deliver course materials, communicate with students, and create learning activities. Vista's secure course site can be accessed with a web browser, which enables you to design or update your online course anywhere, any time, at your convenience. Vista offers an easy way to make course content available to your students. Any materials that you hand out in the classroom, such as your syllabus, assignments, schedules, lecture notes, or articles, can be uploaded to Vista for students to view or print. You can also provide course hyperlinks to materials you want your students to use. Vista's Grade Book lets you administer student grades online and distribute grades securely and privately, following FERPA regulations. It is possible to import scantron exam results into the Grade Book. See ITaP's Blackboard Website for more information. You should consult ITaP for more details.

  9. Should I keep backup copies of all grades?

Always. It is always a good idea to keep backup hard copies of your exam grades and to periodically ask for copies of the homework and/or quiz scores from your grader.
