Professional Development
Throughout my graduate school experience, I took advantage of many opportunities to improve my teaching skills. At Brown University, I was actively involved in the Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning at Brown University, where I participated in many seminar programs aimed at the study of pedagogy and professional development in academia.
- Completed three certficate programs offered by the center:
- Fall 2004 - Spring 2005 — The Certificate I Program: the Sheridan Teaching Seminar. Introduces participants to the aspects of a reflective teaching practice and encourages constructive pedagogical practices
- Fall 2005 - Spring 2006 — The Certificate II Program: the Classroom Tools Seminar. Discusses concrete methodologies and strategies for pedagogy, including teaching with technology. Presents aspects of course design, implementation, and syllabus construction
- Fall 2007 - Spring 2008 — The Certificate III Program: the Professional Development Seminar. Exposes participants to methods for articulating teaching philosophy, and communicating pedagogical experience through teaching portfolios
- Fall 2006 - Spring 2009 — Served as a Teaching Consultant
- Provided individual teaching consultations: observed graduate students and young faculty in-class, and provided feedback and advice regarding pedagogical practices
- Served as consultant for presentation consultations: advised undergraduate and graduate students on professional presentations, job talks, and conference talks
- Served as small-group discussion leader for Certificate I participants
