Due to the use of MTHW 210 for teaching these large sections of the course, there are two changes to the regular course information.
IN CLASS EXAMS
Exams 1 & 3, which are the in class exams, will take place in Fowler Hall (in Stewart Center). Your assigned seat for the exam will be distributed in class, as the exam approaches.
QUIZZES
In class quizzes will be graded on completion only. All students who submit a quiz solution will receive full credit (3 points) for the quiz. Those who do not submit a solution will receive no credit (0 points) for the quiz.
The purpose of the quizzes is to help students determine how successful they are in learning topics each week. This information will help students determine how to distribute their study time in preparing for each exam. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you attempt each quiz on your own. However, you may choose to work on the quiz with another student. Note that you will receive the same score in either case and that a complete solution of the quiz will be sent to you, or posted, after the quiz. Keep in mind that, if you work with another student on the quizzes, you will not have a realistic idea of what you have/have not learned. This could easily lead to perfect scores on the quizzes, with a much less than perfect outcome on the exams.
Lastly, since the quizzes will be graded on completion only, they will only be worth 50 points at the end of the semester, rather than 75 points. Otherwise, the weight of work and the assigning of grades will be the same as in the other sections.
If you feel this format does not best suit your needs as a student, please consider switching to one of the smaller sections of the course. Our goal is to help students succeed in the course and section changes are based on available space only.
