Math Club

The Math Club sponsors talks on subjects that are of interest to all students interested in mathematics. Talks are in Recitation 113, from 6:00-7:00 PM.

Need to review integration?

See Paul's Online Math Notes, which reviews lots of stuff, including techniques of integration in his Calculus II notes and factoring polynomials in his algebra notes. Recommended by a student.

Quizes

Quizes are roughly a half hour in length, will take place every second Friday, beginning January 15.

Homework

Homework will be assigned one week (MWF), and will be due the following Wednesday. I do not accept late homework.

Office hours, etc.

Office hours: Monday, 7:00PM-10:00PM, or by appointment.

Grading Scheme

Lab: 100 points; homework: 100 points; biweekly quizes: 150 points; final exam: 150 points.

Labs

The labs are run totally independently of the lectures. The students in my lecture will be distributed among the four lab sections on Tuesday. At the end of the semester the lab grades will be given to me to incorporate into the total grades.

Tutors are available

The Mathematics Department maintains a list of mathematics tutors. Tutors are also available through the Women in Science and Engineering Tutoring Program run by the Colleges of Science and Engineering.

dfield and pplane in a browser, without Matlab!

The programs dfield and pplane, needed for some of the homework problems, have been implemented as Java browser applets at this web page. They can be run without Matlab; you must have Java enabled in your browser preferences.
