Mimmo Iannelli"Some Control Problems in Age-Structured Population Dynamics"
ABSTRACT: The talk is devoted to discuss the mathematical approach to control problems within the context of age structured populations. The usual procedure known as Pontryagin's principle leads to the analysis of a partial differential system which is non local; this was first considered by M. Brokate in 1985 relatively to the investigation of optimal harvesting strategies. In our analysis we get an implicit representation of the optimal controller. Additional conditions and specific modeling assumptions should allow a description of the optimal strategy. The special case of optimal harvesting for the linear model will be considered and it will be shown that in this case a detailed analysis is possible.
