After describing the basic equations for the atmosphere (the
Primitive Equations) we present recent and less recent results on
existence and uniqueness of solutions.

We then describe the Rossby asymptotics and technics adapted to the
averaging of the oscillations that appear in the limit of small Rossby
number.

We conclude with some remarks concerning the control of these equations
in the presence of the oscillations.
