A generalized Peierls-Nabarro model for curved dislocations Yang Xiang Hong Kong University of Science and Technology The Peierls-Nabarro model is a continuum framework incorporating atomic features for dislocations (line defects) in crystals. We present a generalized Peierls-Nabarro model for the core structure and dynamics of curved dislocations, in which the anisotropic elastic energy is obtained efficiently using the Fast Fourier Transform method, and the generalized stacking fault energy is used for the interplanar potential across the slip plane. Simulation results are reported on core structures and activation energies of dislocation loops in Al and Cu.
