Instructor: Birgit Kaufmann Contact Information: Office MA 748, e-mail: ebkaufma@math.purdue.edu, phone: (765) 494-3173office hours: MW 1:30-2:20 pm Syllabus: Schedule, assignments, and lectures In the fall semester of 2019 there will be three sections of the course MA 527: one regular session with 75 seats that meets in a studio room where every lecture will be taped on streaming video, one "on campus distance learning" section (ONC) that has access to the streaming videos and one true distance learning section (EPE) with students from all over the country and the world. In this class we will study several of the major areas of mathematics that are useful in engineering, including linear algebra, ordinary and partial differential equations, Laplace and Fourier transforms. Information for on-campus distance learning students: Homework will be collected weekly as pdf file that has to be uploaded into Blackboard, typically on Wednesdays. Detailed instructions can be found here.
Two Midterms will be given as common evening exams for the on-campus students attending the live class and the ONC students. The dates of the Midterm exams are: Mon, Sep 23, 2019 8:00-9:00 p.m. PHYS 114 Mon, Nov 4, 2019 6:30-7:30 p.m. PHYS 114
The Final Exam will be given as common final exam for the on-campus students and the ONC students. The date is TBA.
The off-campus distance learning students (EPE) will take all the exams remotely with a proctor.
Course grading will be based on 2 midterms, a final, and regular homework. Each midterm will be worth 100 points, the final exam 150 points and the homework 100 points for a total of 450 points. The lowest two homework scores will be dropped, but in return, late homework will not be accepted. Important: In the event of a major campus emergency, course requirements, deadlines, and grading percentages are subject to changes that may be necessitated by a revised semester calendar or other circumstances beyond the instructor's control. Information about such changes will be posted on this web page. |
