Homework 7
All questions are from Penney, Linear Algebra, 4th edition. For each question that's more than just a calculation, justify your reasoning in complete sentences. Please staple your work and label each problem clearly. Each problem is worth 5 points.
- True or False questions 3.12 and 3.20 (p. 173).
- Exercises 3.35, 3.36, 3.42, and 3.46 (pp. 174-178).
- Let T:R^2 -> R^2 be the following linear transformation: rotate counterclockwise by pi/4, and then reflect across the y-axis. Describe the inverse of T in words. Then, write down the matrices A of T and B of T-1, and check that AB = BA = I.
- Pick another exercise from section 3.2 that looks interesting, and do it.
