Algebra, Trigonometry and Pre-calculus Credit Exams
The credit exams are not open to students who have received a grade in the course (or an equivalent course), or are currently taking the course (after the first exam). Students with W in a course are permitted to take the credit exam.
Scheduling Exams
Exams are administered by Testing Center during Day On Campus and for 3 days before the Fall and Spring semesters. See the Office of the Dean of Students Advanced Credit Exam page for more information about these testing dates.
During the first four weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters the Department of Mathematics Undergraduate Office (MATH 242) will schedule these exams. Students who wish to take an exam must make an appointment in the Undergraduate Office (MATH 242). They must bring a Form 231 from their advisor and a photo ID to the exam.
Credit Policy
- In some Colleges there are majors which require MA 152 or MA 153 as the only mathematics credit. Students who have taken a calculus course at Purdue and then change to a major which requires MA 152 or MA 153 have satisfied the requirement by default. The Mathematics Department will not allow such students to take credit exams in MA 152, or MA 153 to obtain 3 additional credit hours toward graduation.
- Students transferring from Engineering or other Purdue colleges who have passed a calculus course(s) (MA 161 and/or MA 162, for example), whose new college has requirements of MA 158 are permitted to take the credit exam for MA 158.
- In order to pass the credit exams for these courses a student must obtain a score of at least 70%.
- Students only have one try to pass a credit exam for a course.
