Course Information

COVID-19 Update

Starting Mon, March 23, the following changes will be made to the course, in the university-wide effort to combat the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Lectures: Lecture videos and notes (in PDF pormat) will be posted in BlackBoard. They can be found in "Lecture Videos" and "Lecture Notes" folders in "Course Content".
Office Hours: We will use Piazza discussion board instead of office hours. Piazza can be accessed in BlackBoard by going to "Course Content" and clicking on "Discussion Board" link.
Online Homework: This part of the course remains unchanged. Please continue doing your homework on MyLabMath as before.
Handwritten Homework will need to be submitted in BlackBoard. Please go to "Course Content" and then choose "Handwritten Homework."
Exams will change to an online format, most likely in MyLabMath (details will be available when finalized.)

Course Description: Credit Hours: 3.00. First order equations, second and n’th order linear equations, series solutions, solution by Laplace transform, systems of linear equations. It is preferable but not required to take MA 265 either first or concurrently. Not open to students with credit in MA 262, 272, 360, 361, or 366. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer.

Information for Sections 364 and 365

Lecture Times: MWF 10:30am–11:20pm (Section 365), 11:30am–12:20pm (Section 364), in UNIV 303
Office Hours: MWF 12:30–1:30pm in MATH 827
Online Homework: There will be 36 online homework assignments in MyLabMath (deadlines are in MyMathLab as well as in the Calendar below)
Written Homework: Submitted in class
Projects: There will be 3 computer projects, to be submitted in class
Exams: There will be two midterm exams (see Calendar) and a course-wide common final exam.
Grades: Course grades is based on the Total Score (100 points), distributed as follows

Total Score = Online Homework (20%) + Written Homework (5%) + 3 Projects (5%) + 2 Midterm Exams (35%) + Final Exam (35%)

Assignment of the Grade: The scores will be uniformized across different sections by using the following procedure. (i) The number of particular letter grades (A, B, …) in each section is based on the Final Exam score across all sections of the course by using a course–wide Final Exam curve. (ii) The letter grades within each section are then determined based on the Total Score.
