Message From the Department Head

The Purdue Mathematics Department is a large department with a complex and diverse role in the University. We have a faculty of 70, 127 graduate students, and 295 mathematics majors (including 73 actuarial science majors). On average 10,000 students are registered in mathematics courses at the West Lafayette campus every semester. Our activities include basic research, done primarily by faculty and Ph.D. students, but also in recent years by some undergraduates; the training of mathematicians at many levels for diverse careers; and of course the service teaching that we provide for students majoring in other disciplines at Purdue. We hope that Math PUrview gives alumni and friends a better idea of who we are and what we do.
