Faculty Outreach Summer 2021 Update
Recently, the Outreach team held two Mathematics Moving Forward Webinars where teachers discussed their experiences teaching this past year in the pandemic and lessons they want to take with them moving forward. Below are short summaries of each webinar and ways for you to watch/listen to them now, should they interest you.
Grades 9-12: The discussion was on relationship-building, empathy, and prioritizing methods over answers.
Grades 3-6: The discussion was on the many technological resources accessed by the teachers to meet students where they are and support their growth, relationship-building, and prioritizing methods over answers.
You can (soon) access both on the podcast: https://teachingscience.libsyn.com
Also sharing with you a trend from last year called #MegaFavNumbers that grad student Nick Egbert shared. Math YouTubers would post videos describing their favorite number over 1,000,000. Here is a description: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLar4u0v66vIodqt3KSZPsYyuULD5meoAo and here is another video that I feel is a bit more accessible for a wider range of ages: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7Fbfu584ts
Check out the video below (the same video that was posted in May) for ideas on how you can think about the broader impact of your research in the form of service.
