Asking for a letter
I am generally willing to write a recommendation letter for any current or former students who ask. At the same time, not every letter I can write will be equally strong for every purpose. If I think that I cannot write a letter that is likely to help with your goals, I will try to say that clearly and constructively.
My letters are based almost entirely on my own direct experiences with students. As a rule, I do not include information that is unrelated to those experiences. If you hope to ask for a strong letter from a course, it is a good idea to participate regularly in class and to come to office hours.
Students should normally waive their right to read recommendation letters. Confidential letters are generally more useful to application committees, and many applications expect this.
Please send recommendation requests by email from your institutional (@purdue.edu) address to cjanjigi@purdue.edu.
