Course Information

Information for Sections 063 and 152

  • Lecture Times: MWF 11:30am–12:20pm (Section 152), 12:30pm–1:20pm (Section 063), in UNIV 103
  • Office Hours: MWF 10:30am–11:20am in MATH 827
  • Homework: Homework consists of two parts: online, to be done in WebAssign, and hand-written (including Supplementary Problems and Computer Projects 1, 2, 3), to be submitted in class. Typically, the online homework for a lesson is due at 10pm on the next lecture day. Hand-written homework will be collected weekly on Wednesdays, at the beginning of class, for lessons covered in the previous week. No late homework will be accepted, however, the 3 lowest homework scores (out of 35 scores for each lesson), both for online and hand-written parts, will be dropped. The most up-to-date information on homework can be found in WebAssign and in the Calendar below. Please note that the schedule may change due to various reasons, so please check it regularly.
  • Exams: There will be two midterm exams (scheduled on 2/20 and 4/10) and a course-wide common final exam (in the finals week 4/29-5/4).

  • Grades: Course grades will be determined from the Total Score, calculated as follows

    Total Score (max 600 pts) = Homework (200 pts) + Midterm Exams (2 @ 100pts each) + Final Exam (200pts)

    Assignment of the Grade: The scores will be uniformized across different sections by using the following procedure. (i) The number of particular letter grades (A, B, …) in each section is based on the Final Exam score across all sections of the course by using a course–wide Final Exam curve. (ii) The letter grades within each section are then determined based on the Total Score.
