Department Sponsors Second Career Night

The Mathematics Department held its second Math Career Night on October 25. The evening's program was designed to inform students about professions in the field of mathematics. Three invited speakers, all Purdue math alums, described what they do professionally and offered suggestions as to how students can better prepare themselves to enter the field.

James L. Phillips received a Ph.D. in mathematics and computer science in 1968 and now is manager of mathematics and engineering analysis for Boeing Computer Services in Seattle, WA. Robyn Ulmer earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1993 and is a cryptologic mathematician for the National Security Agency. David Dwyer earned his Ph.D. in mathematics in 1990 and serves on the faculty at the University of Evansville.

Funding for the event was provided in part from a gift made by Dr. William Browning, President and CEO of Applied Mathematics, Inc. Dr. Browning received his Ph.D. in mathematics from Purdue in 1974 and participated in the department's first career night last April.
