Faculty Awards and Honors


Professor Carl Cowen has been elected Governer of the Indiana Section of the Mathematical Association of America for the term 7/1/96 - 6/30/99.

Professor Harold Donnely has been elected to membership in the Johns Hopkins Society of Scholars. The Society was established by the University Trustees to honor distinguished former postdoctoral fellows of Johns Hopkins.

Professor Ed Dubinsky received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Board of Governors of the Mathematical Association of America at the MAA business meeting on January 13, 1996. Dubinsky was cited for his many contributions to mathematics education, especially his founding and editing UME Trends.

Professor Fabio Milner is co-author of a paper entitled "Are there multiple endemic equilibria or not?" which has been selected as Best Research Paper of the Seventh International Congress of Biomathematics. The prize will be awarded at the Eighth International Congress of Biomathematics in Panama City next year.

Professor Fabio Milner and Laurie Iten (Biological Sciences) have been awarded a Science Curriculum Development Award for summer 1996 to produce a version of MA 223, 224 which integrates with the biology curriculum.

Professor Richard Penney was named by juniors and seniors in the School of Science as the Outstanding Teacher in the School of Science for 1995-96. Selection was based on Professor Penney's dedication to his students and the major improvements he initated in the Math program
