Textbook: ** Vector Calculus (5th or 6th Edition)**,
by Jerrold E. Marsden and Anthony Tromba, on reserve in the math library. This is a good book but too expensive. I recommend a used copy for $10. The two editions are virtually identical and I won't be using the book to assign homework.
We will cover most of the material in the book: the geometry of Euclidean space, differentiation of functions of several real variables, higher-order derivatives, maxima and minima, vector-valued functions and their derivatives, double and triple integrals, change of variables, integrals over curves and surfaces, and the integral theorems of vector analysis. Another good book is **Calculus of Several Variables** by Robert T. Seeley.

Grading is based on

Homework assignments until Homework 7 are due in class on Wednesdays, or in MATH 602 by 12:30 pm. Starting with Homework 8 they are due by email on Wednesdays, by 12:30pm. They may be handed in up to one week late for half credit. Collaboration is encouraged, but you must write up your homework on your own. Here are the assignments:

The first midterm will be on February 19th. There is no homework due but take a look at the following midterm review problems.
