Alumnus Yitang Zhang awarded MacArthur Fellowship

Yitang ZhangThe MacArthur Fellowship - colloquially known as Genius Grants - was awarded to Purdue alumnus Yitang Zhang. He was one of 21 fellows named by the MacArthur foundation for 2014.

The MacArthur Fellowship is awarded to a broad range of scholars, artists and professionals and comes with a $625,000 stipend to be awarded over five years.

Zhang recently delivered the final address at the prestigious International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM).

His work proving a weaker version of the Twin Prime Conjecture has also been recognized by the 2013 Ostrowski Prize, the 2014 Cole Prize in Number Theory, and the 2014 Schock Prize in Mathematics.

After being out of academia for 10 years, Zhang became a lecturer at University of New Hampshire in 1999. After his result, he became a full professor at UNH in January 2014.
