Emanuel Indrei and Baiying Liu will both join the Purdue University Department of Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor in August of 2016.

Emanuel Indrei
Emanuel Indrei
Prof. Indrei completed his PhD in 2013 at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a student of Alessio Figalli and was selected for the Frank Gerth III Dissertation Award.

Since then he has held a number of high-profile positions throughout the world, including visiting positions at the Australian National University, the Hausdorff Research Institute for Mathematics and Universität Bonn, the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications at the University of Minnesota, the Max-Planck Institut in Leipzig, and the University of Oxford, and postdoctoral positions at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, CA and at Carnegie Mellon University.

His research is in analysis and geometry, with a focus on free boundary problems arising in elliptic theory, isoperimetric inequalities, and logarithmic Sobolev inequalities.

Prof. Liu completed his PhD in 2013 at the University of Minnesota, where he was a student of Dihua Jiang.

He was a Wylie Assistant Professor Lecturer at the University of Utah, followed by a year as a member at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.  Since completing his PhD, he has been in great demand as a speaker, with talks at the American Institute of Mathematics, Rutgers University, the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton University, Duke University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, among many others.

His research is in the broad area of number theory and its connections with representation theory and automorphic forms, as envisioned in the Langlands program.

We are delighted to welcome these two accomplished scholars to Purdue.
