Department of Mathematics faculty celebrate anniversaries at Purdue

Purdue University honored over 300 faculty members for their years of service during a celebratory luncheon Dec. 3. Faculty members were celebrated for service anniversaries ranging from 10 years to a remarkable 55.
These faculty members of Purdue Mathematics were honored at the event:
- Kiril Datchev, associate professor, celebrating 10 years of service
- Guang Lin, College of Science Associate Dean of Research and Innovation and professor of Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering, celebrating 10 years of service
- Deepam Patel, associate professor, celebrating 10 years of service
- Changyou Wang, professor, celebrating 10 years of service
- Xiangxiong Zhang, associate professor, celebrating 10 years of service
- Mireille (Mimi) Boutin, associate professor of Mathematics and Electrical and Computer Engineering, celebrating 20 years of service
- Nung Kwan (Aaron) Yip, professor, celebrating 25 years of service
- Antonio Sa Barreto, professor, celebrating 35 years of service
- Steve Bell, professor, celebrating 40 years of service
- Johnny Brown, professor, celebrating 45 years of service
“Anniversaries remind us to celebrate our faculty for their immense contributions to our teaching and research missions, as well as for their service to the department and the profession,” says Irena Swanson, professor and head of Purdue Mathematics. “Congratulations to all: you have made a difference to countless students with your teaching, mentoring and your example, and your research continues to influence new developments.”
The luncheon also commemorated the 60th anniversary of the University Senate. The senate serves in an advisory capacity to help achieve the educational objectives of the university. It features elected members of the Purdue faculty as well as the presidents of Purdue Student Government and Purdue Graduate Student Government.
