Unrestricted gifts are especially valuable as they can be used to support any department initiative as needs arise.

 

Support for Students

PRF Women Excellence in Mathematics Scholarship Fund

This fund was established by Erick Yanez, BS Math 2001, with hopes that this scholarship would encourage new generations of women to pursue a degree in the exciting and diverse world of Mathematics. This scholarship is awarded by PRF to a female student majoring in Mathematics at Purdue.

Leonard D. and Anna W. Berkovitz Scholarship Fund

William Browning, founder and President of Applied Mathematics, Inc., Gales Ferry, CT, established a scholarship for mathematics undergraduates in 2003 to honor his Ph.D. advisor, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Leonard Berkovitz, and his wife, Anna.

Meyer E. Jerison Memorial Fund

Professor Meyer Jerison played an active role in the Mathematics Department and in the University at large for decades. After his death in 1995, family and friends established a memorial fund to encourage students in mathematics. The fund also honors his wife, Miriam Jerison, who died in 2010. It provides conference travel support for undergraduate and graduate students, scholarships for undergraduates, and an annual undergraduate analysis award.

T.T. Moh Graduate Scholarship Fund

Shau-wai Lam established a fund in 2001 to honor his best friend, Professor T.T. Moh. The scholarship is awarded to Chinese students pursuing advanced degrees in mathematics.

Jean E. Rubin Scholarship Fund

The late Jean E. Rubin was a logician and professor of mathematics who served for many years as the Mathematics Department scholarship chairperson. A scholarship in her name was created shortly after her death in 2003 to continue her work of attracting talented students to study mathematics.

Helen Clark Wight Scholarship Fund

These scholarships are awarded to one or more undergraduate students pursuing the appropriate curriculum to qualify for certification to teach mathematics at the elementary or secondary education level.

 

Support for Young Faculty

Yue Lin Lawrence Tong Endowment Fund

A memorial fund was established by family and friends of mathematics professor Larry Tong, who died prematurely in 2005. The fund supports research activities of untenured assistant professors in the Department of Mathematics.

 

Women in Mathematics

Women in Mathematics Day

This fund provides financial support for the annual "Women in Mathematics Day" event hosted by the Department of Mathematics. Activities center around the Jean E. Rubin Memorial Lecture, delivered by an invited woman mathematician of international prominence.

 

Mathematical Sciences Library

Mathematical Sciences Library Fund

Funds donated to the Mathematical Sciences Library are used for library materials, equipment, and services.
