Johnny Houston Lecture Series
In 2023 the Department of Mathematics, hosted jointly with the Black Cultural Center, had its first Annual Johnny Houton Lecture series.The first lecture was given by Dr. Johnny Houston himself. Dr. Houston's talk was entitled "Investigating-Visualizing Infinity in Finite Space" and was presented in February 2023.
Dr. Houston received his PhD in Mathematics at Purdue University in 1974 and made a significant impact on Mathematics. In 1969 he was one of the founders of Purdue’s Black Cultural Center. That same year he was one of the founding members of the National Association of Mathematicians (NAM), a professional society promoting excellence in the mathematical sciences among underrepresented minority groups, and in particular African Americans.
Lectures in this series occur annually in the Spring Semester.
